Maintinance of Mexican Copper Sinks

When it comes to handmade copper sinks, maintaining their timeless beauty is essential. While raw copper possesses rust-resistant and anti-microbial qualities, some copper sinks have lacquered copper, designed to preserve its bright look; and finally, pre-patinated copper sinks, which have patination before you buy them. The care instructions for these types of sinks are essentially the same. Keep reading about the maintenance of Mexican copper sinks if you want to enjoy their mesmerizing beauty for decades to come.

Before we dive into the maintenance details, we would recommend to our clients to ensure your kitchen copper sink is at least 99 percent pure copper to fully harness its anti-microbial properties and durable yet malleable quality. To maintain the pristine appearance of your decorative copper sink, clean it daily using mild soap, warm water, and a soft cloth or sponge. Dry the sink thoroughly to prevent water spots. Avoid abrasive cleaners or tools like steel wool, as these can damage the surface of copper patina. While the natural patina development is part of copper's charm, there are steps you can take to intervene. If you wish to prevent water spots, especially in areas with hard water, consider applying a monthly spray wax. Green spots caused by mineral buildup can be removed with a fingernail, soft cloth, or warm water and a sponge. Beware of soaps that may lead to green spotting if left on the surface for an extended period.

To avoid stains and damage from apron front copper sinks, refrain from leaving rubber mats, sink grids, sponges, or food/dishes in the sink for extended periods. Bleach should not come into contact with the sink, as it can remove the patina. Acidic foods, such as citrus, tomatoes, ketchup, and soda, can strip the patina, as can cosmetics, toiletries, and abrasive chemicals. Even oil from the fingertips can affect the patina. Consider using sink grids specifically designed for copper sinks to protect against patina removal. A new sink can give your kitchen a fresh look and with our custom-made models, it can even become a statement piece in your kitchen's decor. With proper care and attention, your farmhouse copper sink can stand the test of time, retaining its exquisite appearance and functional benefits. Stay vigilant in your maintenance routine to enjoy the enduring beauty of your copper sink for years to come.
